Russia launched new attacks on energy facilities in Kyiv and Kharkiv, despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of an energy ceasefire, according to allegations by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who spoke of ongoing strikes that caused power outages in the Ukrainian capital.

In a post following his conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Zelenskyy reported that shortly before their conversation, a Russian Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicle struck a power plant in the Ukrainian capital, causing power outages in many neighborhoods.

He added that, according to him, Russian forces subsequently carried out additional attacks on energy facilities in the Kharkiv region.

“And all of this happened AFTER the President of the United States made his statement about an energy ceasefire,” the Ukrainian president emphasized, noting that Russian bombings continue unabated.

New military aid of 3 billion euros from the EU

During his conversation with von der Leyen, Zelenskyy received assurances regarding the provision of additional European military aid totaling approximately 3 billion euros, which, as he announced, is set to be disbursed next week.

The Ukrainian president also thanked the Commission president for the recent disbursement of 1.24 billion euros, an amount Ukraine has already received to strengthen its defense.

“I am grateful for the confirmation that additional military aid totaling approximately 3 billion euros will be made available as early as next week. These funds will strengthen our defense,” Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy emphasized that, under the current circumstances, the steadfast support of European partners is crucial for protecting human lives and thwarting Russian efforts to break the country’s resilience.

Ukraine’s path toward the EU was also on the agenda

Zelenskyy and von der Leyen agreed to strengthen coordination between Kyiv and Brussels, with the relevant teams taking the lead in preparing the next joint actions.

The discussion also focused on Ukraine’s path to accession to the European Union, with the goal of opening all remaining negotiation chapters by the end of the year.

“Ukraine’s European path is also a path toward strengthening Europe itself,” the Ukrainian president emphasized.
