Following his support for the xenophobic AfD, Musk is now backing the French far right for the French presidency and government
Billionaire Elon Musk expressed on Wednesday, July 15, his support for far-right French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen, after she confirmed that she would run for office despite her conviction for fraud, even if it means wearing an electronic ankle monitor.
“She is France’s last hope,” he wrote in a tweet to his 240 million followers on the social media platform X, reposting a photo of her along with another user’s comments.

The original post he reposted stated that “Marine Le Pen’s poll numbers have skyrocketed. Before the last presidential election in 2022, Macron was at 27%, Le Pen was at 23%. Right now, she’s at 36%, while her closest rival is at 16%. France will deport millions.”
Musk has long been a supporter of Le Pen, but this is the first time he has endorsed her in the middle of an election campaign. Musk has previously supported the xenophobic far-right German party AfD and Romania’s far-right candidate Calin Georgescu, and he maintains excellent relations with Giorgia Meloni and good relations with Viktor Orbán. Meanwhile, the Nazi salute made headlines around the world at Trump’s inauguration.
“Only fools never change their minds,” commented the French foreign minister
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot called on Musk to reconsider his support. “As we say in French: Only fools never change their minds,” he wrote.
The National Rally and Marine Le Pen are closer than ever to winning the French presidency. She is running for president for the fourth time.
Le Pen launched her campaign just hours after the appeals court upheld her conviction for misusing European Parliament funds. She had said she would not campaign while wearing an electronic ankle monitor, and Jordan Bardella was preparing for the campaign.
However, Le Pen was sentenced by the appeals court to a 15-month ban on holding public office (which she served from the initial trial through the appeals process) and to one year of electronic monitoring. Marine Le Pen appealed her conviction to France’s Supreme Court.
Musk had supported Le Pen when the investigation was announced, writing “Free Le Pen!”
Elon Musk’s foreign interference is beginning ahead of the presidential election. @Arcom_fr, when do you plan to put a stop to this?

MP Antoine Léaument (La France Insoumise—LFI) stated that “Elon Musk’s foreign interference in the presidential election has already begun,” calling on the independent public authority that guarantees freedom of communication (Arcom) to intervene.
She added that “algorithmic manipulation of elections is among the risks highlighted in my parliamentary report on the organization of elections in France.”
