A 20-member honor guard of elite personnel from the National Guard’s military branches and units will participate on Tuesday, July 14, in the parade in Paris for France’s national holiday (Bastille Day), which will be attended, among other dignitaries, by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, following an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron, according to information received by CNA.
The National Guard had participated with six members in the parade for France’s national holiday in Paris in 2008, while in 2019 it participated in a parade for Poland’s National Daywith three members, and this year marks the first time it is participating in such a parade with a significantly larger contingent.
According to information from KYPE, the delegation consists of 18 officers and non-commissioned officers and two alternates, who are already in Paris and are participating in rehearsals for the parade. The Commander of the National Guard, Emmanouil Theodorou, will travel to France on Monday, along with the President of the Republic.
The unit’s participation came about following an invitation from France and within the framework of military cooperation between Cyprus and France.
