“Can Nikos Anastasiades really lecture others on institutional order?”
This is the question posed by AKEL in a statement in which it launches a scathing attack against the former President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiades.

The full text of AKEL’s statement:
If the issue weren’t so serious, it would be laughable that Nicos Anastasiades—whose administration was identified more than any other with corruption, collusion, and conflicts of interest, is now appearing to lecture others on institutional order and the rules for investigating the allegations against him.
Nikos Anastasiadis certainly has every right to defend himself and raise his objections. However, he cannot use legalistic contortions to obscure the essential facts. An independent authority of the Republic, following a multi-year investigation, has documented sufficient evidence of a series of potential criminal offenses involving him, his law firm, and other individuals.
Regardless of the final outcome of the criminal investigation, nothing can erase the glaring conflict of interest in the “golden passports” scandal or the unprecedented surge in corruption and collusion during the AnastSiadis–Synagermou administration.
No matter how many doubts and omissions one might now attempt to attribute to the Anti-Corruption Authority, one thing remains unchanged. The political and institutional legacy of that administration is already etched in the collective consciousness of Cypriot society and in the history of the country.
