Silence reigns in government circles, even as reports suggest that a cabinet reshuffle is closer than ever.
“At this moment, I have nothing to tell you—much to your disappointment, I’m sure.”
Konstantinos Letympiotis – Government Spokesperson
Despite the rumors circulating, the only certainty is that tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., the Cabinet will meet in its current composition — a fact that indicates that—if any changes occur—they will follow the meeting and not precede it.
However, nothing can be taken for granted, since Nikos Christodoulides has shown in the past that he chooses to act contrary to media reports and leaks from his inner circle.
“The moment he decides, if and when, to proceed with a reshuffle and restructuring of the Cabinet, this will be announced through official channels, as has been the case in previous instances.”
Konstantinos Letympiotis
DIKO and the Cabinet reshuffle
In any case, the reshuffle will take place with a strong DIKO flavor, as the President of the Republic seeks to strengthen relations between the two sides, particularly in light of the upcoming presidential election.
The Secretariat of the Democratic Party today reviewed all the relevant information during a meeting that focused primarily on the issue of the reshuffle.
According to information from Alpha, what they are now awaiting are the official decisions of Nikos Christodoulides, based on the recommendations the party leadership submitted to the president.
Those… outside Parliament
Behind the scenes, Nikos Christodoulides appears to want to keep DIPA and EDEK as close to him as possible, whose political survival is also tied to the active role they will play in the government until the presidential election.
And as things stand, ministers Vasilis Palmas and Marinos Mousiouttas, both from DIPA, are expected to retain their posts, while EDEK considers it a given that Maria Panagiotou will be replaced with a ministerial position, rather than a position as Deputy Minister or Commissioner.
