There must be reciprocity in confidence-building measures, said former President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades in an interview on state radio on Wednesday morning.
In remarks on the “Morning Route” program, Mr. Anastasiades noted that, as has become clear, the Turkish army is not allowing the Athienou–Pyroi crossing to open because it would disrupt its plans.
He added that it is not the Turkish Cypriots who make the decisions, but rather they carry out the decisions of others; however, he expressed the hope that Turkey has changed its stance.
At the same time, referring to DISY, Nikos Anastasiades said that the party is torn by the personal ambitions of its leaders, which are legitimate if circumstances, the prospects, and the facts on the ground.
He noted, however, that those who hold leadership positions and may be vying for the Presidency of the Republic must, above all else, prioritize their love for the party and their country.
