The resolution submitted by Direct Democracy calling for the resignation of Savvidis and Angelidis has no legal force

How could he send a political message to the executive branch?

The resolution submitted to the Plenary Session of Parliament by “"Direct Democracy" and referred for discussion to the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs—which, among other things, calls for the resignations of the Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General—has no legal force. This is because, beyond sending a political message, it cannot compel the executive branch to implement it, regardless of the outcome when it is put to a vote before the House.

Lawyer Andreas Christou explained on the “Alpha News” program that it could serve as a “lever of pressure” on the government, particularly depending on whether and by which parties it is approved during the plenary session of Parliament.

“It always depends on the people in those specific positions whether they will react and whether they believe it is or is not the right time to resign.”

The resolution’s sponsor, Diana Konstantinidi, explained that it aims to restore citizens’ trust in the institutions, which has been eroded by the continuous scandals of corruption and collusion that have come to light.

“Our effort is to unite political forces against impunity and corruption. I want to believe that all parties want to take action to combat corruption.”
