Organizing meetings and establishing contacts with the relevant ministries and departments, local government authorities, other organizations, and citizen groups, with the aim of strengthening cooperation and addressing issues related to the environment and animal welfare more effectively, as his immediate priority, the new Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, Elias Myrianthos.

As he stated during the handover ceremony for the portfolio of the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare from outgoing Commissioner Antonia Theodosiou, “My immediate priority will be to hold meetings and engage with the relevant ministries and departments, local government authorities, other agencies, and organized citizen groups, with the aim of strengthening cooperation, promoting joint initiatives, and more effectively addressing the pressing issues of concern to citizens in the areas of the environment and animal welfare.”

The new Commissioner thanked Ms. Theodosiou for the detailed briefing she provided, noting that he would review the Office’s initiatives and work with the aim of further advancing the institution’s mission and responsibilities.

“The important work carried out by Ms. Antonia Theodosiou, as well as by previous Commissioners, constitutes a valuable legacy for the institution and will continue for the benefit of the environment, animal welfare, and sustainable development,” he said.

At the same time, he emphasized that he would seek to draw on Ms. Theodosiou’s experience and expertise so that important initiatives launched during her tenure would continue and, where possible, be brought to completion.

For her part, the outgoing Commissioner, Antonia Theodosiou, congratulated Mr. Myrianthos on his appointment and wished him success in carrying out his duties.

She said, in turn, that “she served the institution with a sense of responsibility, dedication, and sincere love for the region and the environment,” while also expressing her gratitude to government agencies, the Departments, the Local Government Authorities, the organizations, the associations, and the community for their cooperation during her term of office.

As part of the handover ceremony, Ms. Theodosiou presented to the new Commissioner the work carried out from January 2024 to the present, as well as the most significant initiatives currently underway.

At the same time, she briefed him on the Office’s key priorities and the issues that remain unresolved, with the aim of ensuring the smooth continuation of the institution’s work.
