TSIHAT YAYIZI—Inspirer of “Blue Homeland”: “There
is a possibility that we will lose the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. We will face very serious diplomatic pressure. Naturally, you will now tell me that this cannot happen. We cannot be swayed by this diplomatic pressure. “We have a massive army.”
The founder of the Blue Homeland is concerned that Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will cave in and accept Europe’s proposal at the crucial Ankara Summit—namely, that Cyprus join NATO.
And he warns him that, in such a case, Turkish history will condemn him.
TSIHAT YAYIZI—Inspirer of “Blue Homeland”: “We lost
Cyprus in 1878. Essentially, it was taken from us by the Treaty of Berlin. And 96 years later, we regained it. Turkish history will never forgive those who drive us off this island or those among us who agree to leave.”
The former Vice Admiral aligns himself with the large group of Turkish analysts who, over the past 24 hours, have launched a coordinated campaign to pressure Erdogan not to take a single step toward a, insisting on a two-state solution. Some even see a sinister role for Donald Trump at the NATO summit.

: “They say that Cyprus—that is, the Greek Cypriot administration in Southern Cyprus—must join NATO. That NATO must be the guarantor. And that the Turkish armed forces must also withdraw from there. I hope that doesn’t happen. Because Trump has gotten us used to him killing the one he loves the most, as he says about Turkey.”
The Turks are lashing out at the European Parliament over its latest scathing report on the occupation, as well as at Maria Olgin, accusing her of overstepping her duties and authority by drafting unacceptable proposals for a solution.
However, Olgin herself has announced through her associates that she will return to Nicosia in the third ten-day period of July, at which time she is expected to formalize the informal five-party talks.
This will be preceded by her crucial visit to Brussels on the 13th of the month.
The turmoil in Ankara is by no means unrelated to the fury of nationalist elements in the occupied territories.
Caught in the middle appears to be a forgotten Erhurman, who, clearly at a loss as discussions take place directly with Turkey, is intervening on various issues just to make his presence felt. Such as today’s discussion on property, prompted by a French appeals court decision to extradite yet another person who has unlawfully seized Greek Cypriot properties to Cyprus.
TUFAN ERHURMAN—Turkish Cypriot leader
: “The property issue is not just a problem for Greek Cypriots, but also for Turkish Cypriots, and the solution lies in sincerity. We will continue to sincerely support Mr. Guterres’ efforts.”
He even launched a scathing attack on the Republic of Cyprus, accusing it of using legalistic methods instead of dialogue.
TUFAN ERCHURMAN—Turkish Cypriot leader
: “I repeat what I said long before I took office: The property issue in Cyprus cannot be resolved through lawsuits filed by Greeks against Turks or by Turks against Greeks. The issue is part of a political problem, and this is evident from the scope of the negotiations.”
He also pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot side has taken steps, such as establishing the Compensation Commission in the occupied areas, in contrast to the Greek Cypriot side, which, as he said, did absolutely nothing.
