“Today we are beginning the serious work required to address the pension issue. We have convened an expanded meeting of members of parliament, experts, and officials who make up our team, which will examine the government’s proposal in detail over the coming months.” This was stated by DISY President Annita Dimitriou following the expanded meeting at the party’s offices, which was also attended by representatives of SEK, OEB, and KEBE.
“Over the past period, we have sought to hear the views of SEK, OEB, and KEBE. We invited them again today, and I thank them for joining us. The goal is to develop a comprehensive picture of the reform. “I must say that we have heard concerns from the social partners—concerns that we share,” said Annita Dimitriou.
“We cannot discuss increasing contributions or raising the retirement age. Nor, of course, can we shift the burden onto current workers and businesses,” she emphasized.
Our goal, said the DISY President, “must be a fair and sustainable pension system that can meet the needs of both current and future generations with decent pensions. A comprehensive reform should also include the second pillar, namely the Provident Funds.”
“We will be ready to review the relevant bill. We expect the government to submit it as soon as possible,” he concluded.
