Positive developments are being noted, particularly in light of the upcoming visit by the United Nations Secretary-General, emphasized DISY President, Anita Dimitriou, during a meeting with the DISY Municipal Group of the Famagusta Municipality, expressing her hope that this momentum will contribute to the resumption of substantive negotiations.
According to a party statement, the DISY President met with members of the Democratic Rally Municipal Group of the Famagusta Municipality, with the participation of DISY MPs from Famagusta, the Press Spokesperson, and the Famagusta District Secretary.
During the meeting, there was an extensive briefing and exchange of views on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue. The President of DISY emphasized that positive developments are taking place, particularly in light of the upcoming visit by the United Nations Secretary-General, and expressed the hope that the current momentum will contribute to the resumption of substantive negotiations, the statement notes.
The Democratic Rally, as Ms. Dimitriou stated, according to the announcement, remains steadfast in our principled positions regarding a sustainable and functional solution within the agreed framework that will reunify Cyprus and rid it of the occupying forces and anachronistic guarantees. It was noted that at this critical stage, calm analysis, strategic thinking, and responsibility are required from all parties, the statement adds.
At the same time, issues concerning the operation of the Famagusta Municipality were discussed, the challenges it faces, as well as ways in which the Democratic Alarm can contribute to promoting solutions and strengthening the Municipality’s work.
In addition, members of the Municipal Group briefed the President on the activities and initiatives planned in anticipation of the 52nd anniversary of the city’s occupation.
For her part, Ms. Dimitriou reaffirmed the Democratic Alarm’s long-standing support for the Municipality of Famagusta, which must serve as a model of harmony and cooperation that will unite all citizens toward our common goal, the statement concludes.
