DISY President Anita Dimitriou described Erdogan’s statements regarding recognition of the pseudo-state—as expressed in his speech to the United Nations General Assembly—as provocative, DISY President Annita Dimitriou. In a written statement, the party president noted that Turkey is undermining the UN Secretary-General’s efforts to restart talks.
“We condemn Erdogan’s provocative statements regarding recognition of the pseudo-state,” she said, adding that “with its intransigent stance, Turkey is not only failing to help but is undermining the UN Secretary-General’s efforts to restart the talks.”
He emphasizes that the Greek Cypriot side must remain steadfast in our principled positions, based on UN resolutions, “so that Turkey is held accountable before the international community, as well as within the European Union, from which it has expectations.”
He also expressed readiness “to support efforts and appropriate initiatives on our side, in accordance with the guidelines set by the Secretary-General, with the aim of resuming substantive negotiations.”
In conclusion, he stated that “this is the only path to achieving the liberation and reunification of our homeland, without occupying forces, without anachronistic guarantees, and without interventionist rights.”
