On Sunday, the two candidates for Deputy Mayor of Aglantzia, Andri Hatzandreou and Prokopis Prokopiou, after casting their ballots, as part of the by-election held following the election of former Deputy Mayor Andreas Konstantinou to the position of Member of Parliament.
Ms. Hatzandreou cast her vote at 10:30 a.m. at the 6th Elementary School of Aglantzia, while Mr. Prokopiou voted at 11:00 a.m. at the Pallouriotissa Junior High School.
In her remarks, Ms. Hatzandreou thanked those working to ensure the smooth conduct of the election and expressed her hope that “everything goes well” and that the people “decide based on the criteria they themselves have set as priorities.”
She noted that, once the election is over, “Aglantzia will move on to the next day anyway,” adding that “the day after is the most important of all, because the goal here is for Aglantzia to come out on top.”
He once again called on residents to go to the polls, noting that “it may be hot, but it’s a long day.” “We can vote and then go for a swim,” she said.
Ms. Hatzandreou said that the elections are important, as “the Deputy Mayor’s Office plays a key role in local government,” urging residents to exercise their right to vote.
For his part, Mr. Prokopiou stated that “today we are voting for the good of our Aglantzia” and called on “all Aglantzians” to go to the polls.
“We are all working to ensure that everyone comes to the polls to vote,” he said, adding that the goal is for Aglantzia “to once again become the jewel of the greater Nicosia Municipality”.
A total of 15,182 voters in the Aglantzia Municipal District are eligible to vote in the by-elections. A total of 26 polling stations are operating in six schools.
Polling stations opened at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 6:00 p.m., with a one-hour break starting at 12:00 p.m. According to Nicosia District Administrator Andreas Hatzipakos, who is in charge of the electoral process, the official results are expected to be announced around 8:30 p.m.
