The Cabinet Decides on the Replacement of a Cyta Board Member; the House of Representatives to Consider the Advisory Committee’s Operating Procedures

Reactions Following the Appointment
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Loizos Economides, who was appointed yesterday by the Council of Ministers as a new member of Cyta’s Board of Directors, will be replaced, according to reliable sources; meanwhile, in another development, the broader issue of the Advisory Council’s operations following yesterday’s appointments will be discussed in the Parliamentary Committee on Institutions. Mr. Oikonomides is vice president of the PASE ATIK union, and his wife also works at Cyta. His appointment sparked reactions, primarily from the Organization’s unions.

According to information obtained by KYPE from the government, as has been the case in similar situations in the past when such an issue arose, this particular board member will be replaced since, in his expression of interest, he failed to disclose, among other things, that his wife is also employed at Cyta. The entire matter is considered not to be an example of good governance.

According to information received by CNA, the decision regarding the new member to replace Mr. Oikonomides will be made at the next meeting of the Council of Ministers.

Issue Regarding the Operating Procedures of the Institutions Advisory Committee

The Chairman of the Institutions Committee, Dimitris Dimitriou, announced via X that an item regarding the operation of the Advisory Council will be added to the agenda, “following yesterday’s appointments to parastatal organizations, the issue that arose at Cyta, and reports of individuals being appointed without having applied.”

Mr. Dimitriou told CNA that the item will be placed on the agenda on September 2 and will be discussed either on the 9th or the 16th of that month.

Regardless of whether Mr. Oikonomides is replaced, the Committee’s meeting will focus more broadly on the Advisory Committee’s mode of operation.
