The Turkish Air Force announced today that fighter jets and support aircraft conducted a training flight south of Cyprus and in the international airspace of the Eastern Mediterranean (September 21).
The announcement, titled “Steel Wings in the Mediterranean Sky,” states that “our activities to protect our country’s rights and interests in the Mediterranean, the development of our operational capabilities, and the maintenance of our units’ readiness at the highest level continue with determination.”
As reported, in this context, “a comprehensive training flight was successfully conducted south of the island of Cyprus and in international airspace over the Mediterranean,” with the participation of fighter jets and support aircraft that took off from various bases of the Air Force Command. The Turkish Ministry of Defense did not disclose the number or type of aircraft involved, nor the exact area or duration of the flight.
A few days earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, had said that the Turkish Armed Forces and the Coast Guard Command are in an “extremely sensitive situation” and that Ankara hopes no one will take “any reckless action.”
