Averof In, Out… and on that note: Confusion and deep concern at Pindarou

The Presidential Office “dumps” Nikolaos; the feud between Keravnos and Papadopoulos has far-reaching implications
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The main topic of discussion at the Pindarou offices remains Averof Neophytou’s next move.

The lack of clarity regarding his intentions—namely, whether he will run with or without the party’s endorsement—has caused confusion and intense concern within the party, just a few weeks before decisions are made regarding the timeline for the internal party process that will follow.

A process for which the possibility is now on the table that it may proceed without the participation of the party’s former president, should he choose to pursue a separate path toward the presidential election.

“The Democratic Rally is bigger than any individual; we must preserve the unity of the party and respect collective decisions.”
Nikos Georgiou – DISY Member of Parliament

Alpha News reports that Annita Dimitriou appears particularly concerned by the uncertainty that continues to surround Averof Neophytou’s intentions.

A politician who—according to sources from Pindarou—has for years been portrayed as the guardian of the party’s constitution and its internal institutional order.

Keraunos vs. Nikola

“The DIKO President made claims that we do not endorse.”
Yiannis Antoniou – Deputy Government Spokesperson

In the government camp now, the above is the response from the President’s Office to DIKO, in the wake of the attack launched by Nikola Papadopoulos against the Minister of Finance, regarding both the GSI and social issues.

“The Minister of Finance remains committed to implementing the decisions of the President of the Republic and the Council of Ministers, as do all members of the government.”
Yiannis Antoniou – Deputy Government Spokesperson

DIKO insists that Makis Keravnos himself is to blame for the dispute, due to his public statements.

It is not out of the question, however, that upon the President of the Republic’s return from New York, and if tensions do not subside, that a meeting between Nikola Papadopoulos and Makis Keravnos might take place at the Presidential Palace.

While AKEL is moving forward with its own procedures for selecting a candidate, Sir Stelios Hadjiioannou categorically denies reports that he has been in contact with the left-wing party regarding a potential candidacy in the 2028 and makes it clear that he has no interest in entering politics.
