On the one hand, he is laying the groundwork for an internal party candidacy, and on the other, he continues to maintain an air of mystery surrounding the candidacy of Averof Neophytou, who for the eighth timehas avoided clarifying whether he will follow the path of the Democratic Rally.
Speaking on ASTRA radio, he issues a general appeal to the public and reiterates that he will not hurt the Democratic Rally supporters, nor will he play with a marked deck again.
“I was reborn into a political faction. On the other hand, I believe that a presidential candidacy is directed at society as a whole and not at specific members of a political faction. I will not hurt the sincere members of my faction.”

As of yesterday, the party’s former president has in his possession the DISY nomination forms and signatures. Vice President Yiannis Karousos cites evidence suggesting his decline within the party, while linking those who supported Christodoulides in 2023 to those who now expect Averof Neophytou to run as an independent.
“I know that everyone—including Mr. Pamboridis and Mr. Averof—is reaching out to people to get them to sign. Those who believe that Averof Neophytou will run as an independent are the ones who voted for Nicos Christodoulides; the rest of us believe he will run through the party’s procedures.”

DISY’s main rival for the leadership is Nicos Christodoulides, not the AKEL candidate, the party’s vice president states.
Why is Pamporidis running?
A few hours after announcing his candidacy on the “Alpha Enimerosi” program, Giorgos Pamporidis stated that he was driven to this decision by the toxic atmosphere prevailing within the party, attributing responsibilityfor mismanagement to both Annita Dimitriou and Averof Neophytou.
