Nor does he confirm, nor does Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis deny the reports that have come to light stating that among the 19 new ideas he presented to Erhurman, Olgin, and Guterres for the resumption of talks on a solution to the Cyprus problem, there is a proposal regarding the return of occupied Famagusta.
Speaking on the “Alpha News” program, he referred to the relevant UN resolutions on Varosia, which have been violated and not implemented by “occupying Turkey” for decades, emphasizing that the President of the Republic has put forward “bold” measures from which the Turkish Cypriot leader can choose “whatever he deems will contribute positively.” The Government Spokesperson noted that if the other side demonstrates the necessary political will and focuses on the substance of the proposals, then there is room for significant progress.
Konstantinos Letympiotis explained that the 19 measures were explained one by one to the members of the National Council at the recent meeting by the President of the Republic.
When asked about the upcoming visit of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on Cyprus, María Ángela Olguín, Mr. Letympiotis said that no dates have been set so far, while expressing the view that her efforts will intensify as António Guterres’s term nears its end.
