“‘President’ Erhurman sent a clear message against the provocative and obstructive efforts being made by Southern Cyprus.”

Amid this climate, which the occupied territories are undermining, the two leaders are called upon to find the end of the thread in the tangled knot of the Cyprus issue during their meeting on Wednesday in the Buffer Zone. Erhürman believes he caught the Greek Cypriot side off guard regarding a solution. “We’re playing with their nerves,” the Turkish Cypriot leader warns…
“We knew what would happen once the Turkish Cypriots’ willingness to reach a solution became apparent. We will remain patient, level-headed, and resolute. The loss of our comfort zone would lead to challenges and pressure. We knew they would try to play on our nerves.”
Tufan Erhurman – Turkish Cypriot leader
Tufan Erhurman, however, avoids any mention of the substance of the Cyprus issue. Both sides are preparing for the one-on-one meeting between the two leaders, for which expectations remain low. The meeting is of particular interest, as it is the first to take place 28 days after Guterres’s visit to Cyprus. The discussion will focus on confidence-building measures and the Athienou–Pyroi and Mia Milia crossing points. However, no progress appears to have been made following the meeting between the two negotiators. “We are
very close to issuing this announcement regarding the simultaneous opening. We have also submitted additional proposals. We are not discussing matters in a vacuum; we are not discussing them without a basis.”
Konstantinos Letympiotis – Government Spokesperson
Nicosia is awaiting the documentation of the points of convergence by Professor McGarry, who is expected to submit his report by early September. The outcome of Wednesday’s meeting will be decisive regarding María Ángela Olguín’s next visit to Cyprus.
European envoy Fito is also continuing his
meetings. European Council President António Costa will also visit Cyprus in the coming weeks as part of his tour of member states.
Oustel is annoyed
Meanwhile, the so-called prime minister appears annoyed by the Republic of Cyprus’s letter to the United Nations, in which it denounces the connection between the occupied territories and Turkey via a natural .
"It is a major contradiction that the Greek Cypriot side, while having ignored the will of the Turkish Cypriots for years and signing unilateral agreements on many issues concerning the island as a whole […] opposes a step taken between the pseudo-state and Turkey. It is impossible for us to accept such a view.”
Oynan Ustel – so-called prime minister
