Following the issuance of the NAVTEX, the necessary procedures will be carried out to disburse the 25 million for the Greece–Cyprus electricity interconnection project within the year, Energy Minister Michalis Damianos told CNA on Friday.
When asked about the next steps regarding the project, the Minister noted that a NAVTEX is expected to be issued by the Greek side, “which, as has been stated by official sources in Greece, will be in October,” while adding that he could not go into details regarding the dates.
Furthermore, Mr. Damianos described U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statements regarding the GSI as positive. In his remarks to CNA, the minister stated that “both in the past and today, the U.S. supports the energy program and the Republic of Cyprus, both in terms of drilling and electricity interconnections.”
He added that the Republic of Cyprus is moving forward with its own energy program, and that such statements and meetings also take place within the framework of the 3+1 cooperation (trilateral cooperation between Cyprus, Greece, and Israel, with the participation of the United States of America), so “our energy program is moving forward.”

He added that all that remains to be done at Vasilikos is to complete the onshore facilities and the jetty.
When asked about the estimated cost of the project, he stated that it is €180 million.
According to the project announcement, the contract duration is set at two years, while the tender is being conducted through a closed procedure, which includes a pre-selection stage for interested economic operators. It should be noted that the contract will be awarded based on the best value for money.
