The Republic of Cyprus has been taking enhanced precautionary measures all these past months, a source familiar with the matter told CNA when asked to comment on a Financial Times article, according to which Cyprus is among the potential targets of Iranian retaliation in the event of a new U.S. attack.
“We have had heightened security measures in place all these months, as a precaution,” the same source told CNA, adding that “we are closely monitoring developments.”

The source noted that four Greek F-16s, as well as the Greek frigate “Nikiforos Fokas,” are stationed in Cyprus.
The FT report reported that Iran has considered the possibility of attacking U.S. military targets in Europe if U.S. President Donald Trump escalates the war.
The newspaper cites two sources said to be familiar with internal developments in Iran, who stated that Iranian forces have considered the possibility of striking U.S. facilities in countries in southeastern Europe, such as Bulgaria, which last month approved the use of the Bezmer air base by U.S. refueling aircraft.
One of the sources said that Cyprus, where a British air base was struck by a drone in March, is also among the potential targets for retaliation in the event of a new U.S. attack.
