"Fast-track" procedures or an extension of the timeline for selecting a candidate?
The DISY Political Bureau is set to address
this question tomorrow afternoon, which is meeting to ratify or amend the decision made on Tuesday by the Executive Bureau.
This decision sets a tight timeline, since—if it is confirmed tomorrow—candidacies for the presidential election nomination must be submitted by October 13.
These nominations must be accompanied by 500 signatures from members, 100 of which must come from the Supreme Council.
Critical Hours
On the one hand, Giorgos Pamporidis was quick to point out the very tight deadlines, which obviously complicate his efforts to present himself to the grassroots.
On the other hand, Averof Neophytou is still keeping his cards close to his chest regarding the path he will take. That is, whether he will proceed with collecting signatures—even within these tight deadlines—or whether he will choose to run independently, as is being rumored behind the scenes.
As for the timelines, however, Pindarou has already given her own response.
“Those who hold a different view may submit it to the Political Bureau. Those who consider the timelines too tight should not rush to announce their candidacy prematurely and publicly.”
Onoufrios Koulla – DISY Spokesperson
For her part, the party’s president is not expected to face any difficulty in collecting the necessary signatures, since, according to reports, her associates are already in contact with dozens of party officials who will stand by her side in this internal party battle, should it indeed take place.
