The Democratic Alarm is describing the appointment of the European Commission’s Special Representative for Cyprus as a positive development.
In a related statement, the party says it hopes that this decision to appoint the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Raffaele Fito, will bolster efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue.
Among other things, it emphasizes that the Democratic Rally has consistently supported more substantial EU involvement.
At the same time, DISY particularly welcomes the fact that the European Commission reaffirms its commitment to the reunification of Cyprus on the basis of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, as well as the principles and values of the EU.
The party also expressed the hope that European engagement will contribute substantially to creating the conditions for the resumption of substantive negotiations aimed at a functional and sustainable solution to the Cyprus, without occupying forces and anachronistic guarantees.
