Expressing regret and disappointment over the resignation of EDEK President Nikos Anastasiou and hoping that he will reconsider his decision, the party’s Conference and Membership Registry Reorganization Committee, emphasizes the importance of absolute respect for institutional procedures and decisions, as well as for all provisions of the party’s bylaws, as stated in a press release issued by the Committee today, following a meeting held yesterday, Wednesday, attended by members Diomedes Diomedes, Michalis Koutalianos, Pavlos Michael, and Nikos Nikolaidis.
The Committee hopes that Mr. Anastasiou will withdraw his resignation. Otherwise, and “taking into account the extremely difficult times the party is going through,” the Committee considers it of the utmost importance “that both the party’s institutional procedures and decisions, as well as all the provisions of the party’s bylaws, be accorded absolute respect.”
It refers to the terms of its mandate as established by the Extraordinary Congress, noting that it considers it self-evident, “within the framework of any well-intentioned interpretation,” that the formation and operation of the Committee in no way conflicts with or contradicts the movement’s institutional bodies or any provisions of the party’s bylaws. It further states that “the Committee will duly inform both the Political Bureau and the Central Committee of the progress of its work, its decisions, and its deliverables.”
It expresses confidence that all party members, “guided by their love for our historic movement, will rise to the occasion and safeguard democratic procedures, the rule of law, and the prospect of the party’s reconstruction.”
