Eleven members of the party’s Political Bureau have criticized EDEK President Sofia Christodoulou Makri in a letter dated October 20, following her decision to postpone the body’s scheduled meeting on October 19.
In their letter, the members cite unconstitutional conduct, inaccuracies, and violations of internal party procedures, arguing that the Chair is referring matters that fall under the Political Bureau’s jurisdiction to the Constitutional Convention on October 25. They raise issues regarding the party’s financial management and sustainability, the implementation of decisions made at the Extraordinary Congress, and the preparation of the proposed constitutional amendments. They also request an update on the President’s activities and conclude by asking for a clear answer as to whether she is complying with the provisions of the current bylaws.
The previous day, Ms. Christodoulou Makri had announced the postponement of the meeting so that a letter from the members could be reviewed, adding that the issues could be raised at the Statutory Congress. She had also stated that the next meeting of the Political Bureau would be announced at least two weeks in advance. The letter from the eleven members is signed by Giorgos Georgiou, Frida Grigoriadou, Vassos Dimitriou, Marios Kyrou, Adonis Konstantinou, Achilleas Malachouridis, Dimitris Pavlidis, Evangelia Sizopoulou, Petros Stylianakis, Marios Hannides, and Stelios Charalambous.
