“Greece’s support has been unparalleled and of vital importance,” DISY President Annita Dimitriou said today, thanking Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a meeting with him in Athens.
Welcoming Ms. Dimitriou, the Greek Prime Minister emphasized that the meeting is taking place at a time when ties between Greece and Cyprus have never been stronger. At the same time, he expressed his satisfaction that the Greek initiative to send defence assistance when the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus was challenged served as a precursor to a broader European mobilization.
“In this way, we demonstrated that we, as Europe, can address issues of defending the sovereignty of member states on our own, more effectively than in the past,” Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized.
For her part, Ms. Dimitriou thanked the Greek Prime Minister because, as she said, Greece’s support “was unparalleled and of vital importance, precisely because of this common framework for addressing challenges, for the pillars of stability that are Greece and our Cyprus, for what is happening in our region but also within Europe.”
At the same time, she emphasized her satisfaction that Greece has now been upgraded to a leading role—something she attributed to Mr. Mitsotakis.
“I say it, I mean it, and I will keep saying it: it is very important that we maintain this proud course. That is the message I am conveying today. And we want to cherish this stability and responsibility, especially in light of the upcoming elections. We want to continue with exactly the same strategy,” she emphasized.
“It’s not about toxicity or populism; it’s about responsibility, actions, and results, and that is the message we want to convey today,” she added.
