The Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Cohesion Policies and Reforms, Raffaele Fito, in a post following his appointment by the European Commission as the EU Special Representative for Cyprus, noted that he was honored to take on this new responsibility and thanked European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for her trust.
“It is an honor to have been appointed by the European Commission as Special Representative for Cyprus,” Mr. Fito said, adding that “he welcomes this responsibility” and remains fully committed to supporting the UN-led process.
As he noted, he will work closely with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus, María Ángela Olguín, with the aim of creating the conditions for the resumption of negotiations and supporting a comprehensive and lasting settlement, including through confidence-building among all stakeholders and negotiating partners.
