"Matters concerning the security of the President of the Republic are not within my purview," said President Nikos Christodoulides himself, noting that the outcome of the vote in Parliament on the issue of a new vehicle for the Presidency does not reflect the initial comments made by some.
In remarks to reporters as he arrived at an event in the Municipality of Athenou, the President of the Republic—when asked whether the political leaders who objected to the vehicle purchase were aware of the threats the President had received, and in response to the observation that there was not just one threat, but four, the President of the Republic said that “both the issue of the threats and the issue of security, and more generally, are matters that I do not handle, and I believe it is correct that the President of the Republic does not handle any matters pertaining to security.
