If anyone is looking for hypocrisy in the Cyprus issue, it is clear that this issue concerns “the Greek Cypriot leadership and those who unreservedly support it,” argued the “prime minister” in the occupied territories, Ounal Ustel, commenting on the speech delivered by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, before the UN General Assembly on Thursday.

In a statement issued today, he noted that President Christodoulides and his inner circle must understand that, regardless of the support they receive, they will not be able to change the reality on the ground in Cyprus. Mr. Ustel continued, saying that the “Turkish Cypriot people” will continue to follow their own path, of their own free will and with determination “with the strong support of the motherland, Turkey, and the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.”
Among other things, Mr. Ustel makes claims about the “usurpation” of the 1960 Republic of Cyprus by the Greek Cypriots and the “exclusion” of the Turkish Cypriots; he speaks of an “inhuman embargo” and “isolation,” while arguing that if there is peace and security in Cyprus today, “it is due to the presence of Turkish soldiers and the security they provide.”
