The EU is ready to make every effort to support the UN’s efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue, within the framework of the UN and in accordance with the EU’s principles, values, and legislation, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in a post on social media following her meeting in Paris with the President of the Republic, Nicos Christodoulides.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the July 14 celebrations in the French capital.
Expressing her delight at the meeting, Ms. von der Leyen stated in her post that, “the EU is ready to make every effort to support the UN’s efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue, within the framework of the UN and in accordance with the EU’s principles, values, and legislation”.

Referring to yesterday’s appointment of the Commission’s Executive Vice President for Cohesion and Migration Policies, Raffaele Fito as the EU Special Envoy for Cyprus, the Commission President noted that the EU is fully committed.
“There is real momentum to move forward. The EU is fully committed. Together, we will work to seize this opportunity,” the Commission President specifically stated, concluding her post.
