Nicosia is coordinating with Athens and Brussels regarding the Turkey-Libya memorandum, and supports and follows the planning and steps taken by the Greek side as the party directly affected, Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kompos said on Friday during the debate on his ministry’s 2027 budget.

He also noted, in response to questions, that Nicosia has long been conducting preliminary work regarding the delimitation of the Cyprus-Greece EEZ, but that this is a matter to be decided at the highest level. He said he is not in a position to provide a timeline for this.

In presenting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ budget for 2027, Mr. Kompos noted that it amounts to €137.75 million, an increase of €5.3 million (4%) compared to the 2026 budget, and by €34.9 million (34%) since 2023, when Nikos Christodoulides’ administration took office. He noted that this increase enabled the Ministry to hire 57 new diplomats, resulting in the number of single-staff embassies to be reduced from 34 in 2023 to 25, adding that they will be reduced further and that another 15 diplomats will be hired.
