The Turkish newspaper Star is attempting to add a new dimension to a map published by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), claiming that it clearly delineates the occupied territories.
The Turkish newspaper presents the map as evidence that, in its view, reinforces Ankara’s long-standing position in favor of a two-state solution to the Cyprus problem. However, it does not appear from CENTCOM’s post that the U.S. side linked this specific map to a change in policy on the Cyprus issue or to recognition of the pseudo-state.
The Star reports that the boundaries between the northern and southern parts of the island are clearly visible on the map.
According to the newspaper, this particular cartographic representation has caused a stir at a time when UN Secretary-General António Guterres is continuing his efforts to restart the Cyprus peace process.
Star even goes so far as to claim that the map “brings to life” the Turkish proposal for a two-state solution.
The article links the map to a post about the tour of CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper in the Middle East.
Star further argues that the way the “borders” are depicted on this particular map is no coincidence, citing the fact that Gaza and the West Bank are also shown separately. From this, the Turkish newspaper concludes that this is a “deliberate choice” and not a random cartographic representation.
However, this conclusion is an interpretation by Star and not an official position of CENTCOM on the Cyprus issue.

The Turkish newspaper places the issue within a broader context of developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean, linking it to Turkey’s recent declaration of new marine national parks.
It refers to the Fethiye–Kas region and the Northern Aegean and presents these specific moves as part of Ankara’s policy regarding the so-called “Blue Homeland.”
The article cites a report by the Turkish channel 24 TV, which speaks of a “fierce battle” in the Aegean and the Mediterranean and claims that Turkey is demonstrating that it will not allow any violation of what it considers to be its rights.
