With the leader of “Direct Democracy,” Fidias Panagiotou, and the leader of the “Alma” Movement, Odysseas Michaelides, taking their seats on the National Council for the first time, the members are meeting today under the new composition of the Council, as determined by last May’s elections for the House of Representatives.
President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides is briefing the House on developments regarding the Cyprus issue, the new initiative by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and the upcoming convening of a new Informal Multilateral Conference.
As reported on the “Alpha News” program by Alpha Cyprus political editor Giorgos Georgiadis, President Christodoulides is expected to focus specifically on the outcomes of the two meetings he held with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on the Cyprus Issue, María Ángela Olguín, inwith Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels.
Of particular interest, in fact, are Ms. Olguín’s upcoming meetings in Brussels, which are expected to demonstrate the European Union’s involvement in the dialogue, as well as the scope for negotiation, based on EU-Turkey relations.
It should be noted that former President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades is absent from the meeting; who informed Nicos Christodoulides that he is preparing for the press conference he has scheduled for tomorrow regarding the Anti-Corruption Authority’s findings on thebook by Makarios Drousiotis, “State Mafia,” in which potential criminal offenses against him are identified.
