The priorities of the Irish EU Presidency, the risks posed by Turkish aircraft in the Nicosia FIR, the issue of installing air conditioning in schools and the delivery of textbooks, as well as the new promotion procedures in the civil service, are some of the issues that will be addressed by House committees starting Monday.
There will also be a discussion regarding the Advisory Council following reactions to some of the appointments to the boards of quasi-governmental organizations. Members of Parliament will also discuss the issue of leasing Turkish Cypriot properties in the Larnaca district.
Following a motion by ELAM, there will be a discussion in the Environment Committee regarding the impact of the actions of specific activist organizations and activists working in the environmental sector, and an assessment of the need to take measures to addressthis phenomenon, as stated in the agenda of topics for discussion. On this issue, there have been various posts and reactions from individuals on social media, with some even calling on the Speaker of the House to intervene.
An ex officio review will also be conducted regarding the protection of the rights of children in state care and the adequacy of mechanisms for protection, supervision, and complaint procedures within state child and adolescent protection agencies.
Also of interest is the discussion regarding potential liabilities for the failure to establish adequate waste management infrastructure and Cyprus’s continued reliance on municipal waste landfilling.
An ex officio review will also be conducted regarding the process of sending patients abroad and the problems that arise, while the progress of implementing the National Strategy and Action Planfor Autism 2024–2028 will also be discussed.
A meeting will also be held with the new Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and the Environment, Christos Senekis, to provide an update and exchange views on issues falling under the jurisdiction of the Agriculture Committee.
