President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides categorically rejects the allegations of pre-election political maneuvering made by the Democratic Alarm regarding the appointment of Nicos Tornaritis as Special PoliticalSpecial Envoy of the President of the Republic for the Cyprus Issue in Asia and Africa.
Returning to the Presidential Palace after his eleventh meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman and when asked about this, Nikos Christodoulides noted that Nikos Tornaritis’s vast experience is recognized by both DISY and other parliamentary parties, as a representative of the House of Representatives to the Council of Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly.
“This serves absolutely no pre-election purpose.”
The President of the Republic emphasized that he is taking on an important role “in a region where the diplomatic representation of the Republic of Cyprus is not at the level we would like it to be.”
“As for what is being said beyond that, I do not wish to comment on it; it does not concern the substance of the matter.”
