Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Klea Papaellina is traveling to Luxembourg, where on Monday she will chair the Employment and Social Policy Council (EPSCO), on social policy issues, as part of Cyprus’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
As stated in a press release from the Deputy Ministry, during the Council meeting, the ministers will exchange views on the European Commission’s Social Package, focusing on the implementation of the first European Strategy for Combating Poverty, as well as effective ways to implement it.
As part of the discussion, the Deputy Minister will also present the main achievements of the Cypriot Presidency in the field of social policy, as well as the most significant ministerial conferences and high-level events that took place during the six-month term.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the priorities promoted by the Cypriot Presidency, including the fight against poverty—particularly child poverty—ensuring children’s well-being, promoting active aging, ensuring access to quality long-term care services, and strengthening the inclusion and equal participation of people with disabilities.
