A “historic relationship” that is now taking on strategic depth and yielding tangible results for Cyprus—this is how the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus describes the Cyprus–India relationship in a post on X.
With one of the world’s largest economies and a strategic partner with an increasingly strong presence on the international stage, it states, Cyprus “is building a relationship that creates concrete political, economic, and geostrategic prospects for our country.”
“The upgrading of Cyprus-India relations to a Strategic Partnership strengthens political coordination between the two countries and broadens cooperation in critical areas such as security, defense, counterterrorism, technology, innovation, shipping, education, and connectivity,” he adds.
At the same time, it is noted, it opens up new prospects for investment and for Cypriot businesses to access the Indian market, “with Cyprus already ranking among the top ten investor countries in India and its investments having doubled over the past decade.”
At the same time, according to the post, “Cyprus’s emergence as a key gateway between India and Europe offers Indian businesses access to the single European market of over 450 million consumers, while the strengthening of the EU–India strategic partnership and the prospects of IMEC elevate our country’s position in the new landscape of trade and connectivity between India, the Middle East, and Europe.”
“A historic relationship that is now taking on strategic depth and translating into tangible results for Cyprus,” he concludes.
