Front-line officials are seeking to steer Pindarou’s ship into calm waters after the storm. Today’s meeting, convened by Anita Dimitriou, was decisive in determining how the party will proceed in the presidential race, resulting in an informal roadmap.
First and foremost, according to reports, the meeting confirmed Anita Dimitriou’s intention to run in the party primaries, which will take place in late November or early December. The DISY President is preparing to make an announcement in the first half of October. Anita Dimitriou expects to face Averof Neophytou as her opponent, and she also provided details about their most recent meeting, during which he gave the impression that he would not back down.
According to her close associates, the former party chairman apparently advised her to be a little patient. George Pamporidis is also expected to be on the ticket, and it is possible that he may reconsider his decision if the former chairman withdraws.
As they arrived at the meeting, party officials appeared optimistic about the party’s future.
“In the end, everything will turn out fine,”
said Dimitris Dimitriou
“Everything will work out for us—don’t worry.”
Savia Orfanidou
The meeting was attended by the party leadership, the general director, the head of the shadow cabinet, and the faction’s communications director.
“We’ve reached an agreement.”
Yiannis Karousos and Efthymios Diplaros shook hands again. Following a dispute marked by harsh words, the two met on Friday night and had dinner in Limassol.
“It happens in all big families. We’re moving forward united.”
Efthymios Diplaros
“Above all, party unity and winning the presidential election with our own candidate.”
Giannis Karousos
Anita Dimitriou appealed to everyone not to air disagreements that undermine unity.
“Responsible opposition”
At today’s meeting, which lasted nearly two hours, Christodoulides’ administration was also on the agenda. They agreed that they would continue to act as the opposition without, however, persistently voting down bills or engaging in a war of words with the presidency, unless deemed necessary. This was the recommendation made by the faction’s communications advisor.
Odysseas’ Criteria
The pre-election machinery is in full swing at ALMA as well. Odysseas Michailidis laid out the criteria by which the party’s candidate will be selected. He did not rule himself out, but he rejected candidates who come from party backrooms and said “no” once again to Andreas Mavrogiannis.
“We will make decisions in the spring of 2027. It must be a strong personality who embodies change and reform.”
Odysseas Michaelides
When asked if he would support Irini Charalambidou, he answered in the affirmative; she herself, however, does not wish to run.
