Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman emerged from his meeting with António Guterres having made provocative statements against the Greek Cypriot side.
Tufan Erhurman claimed that while he is attempting to build trust, the Greek Cypriots are taking actions which, as he said, poison the atmosphere, such as the cancellation of two festivals, the cancellation of the Barcelona Academy’s youth camp, and decisions by the European Parliament.
He also accused the President of the Republic of making daily statements in an attempt to create the impression that the Turkish Cypriot side does not want the trilateral talks.
He noted, however, that he himself has not spoken for three days because he does not wish to engage in negotiations or dialogue through the media.
He also accused the Greek Cypriot side of attempting, as he claimed, to obstruct the Turkish Cypriots’ contacts in New York, seeking to send the message that only the Greek Cypriots should explain their positions on the Cyprus issue.
They discussed confidence-building measures with the United Nations Secretary-General.
Erhurman noted that President Christodoulides presented 19 points at the last trilateral meeting, while the Turkish Cypriot side wishes to discuss the seven points put forward by António Guterres.
He argued that this move by the Greek Cypriots is preventing the two sides from making progress.
