In six months, AKEL will make its decision on the presidential candidate it will put forward to the public, as stated by AKEL Political Bureau member Aristos Damianou during an appearance on the Alpha Kalimera program, as part of a discussion on the purchase of a new presidential limousine.
“We will very soon initiate an internal process on this issue, and we have set a timeline such that by approximately March 2027, for the first time, we will be ready to present to the public a candidate who unites and creates real prospects and opportunities for progressive change, without pre-exclusions or preconceived notions.”
Responding to a comment regarding the fact that Stefanos Stefanou and Andreas Mavrogiannis had met in recent days, Mr. Diamianou stated:
“We have coffee with many distinguished people; we haven’t decided anything, nor have we even discussed it at the highest level.”
DIKO is expected to make decisions in the summer of 2027, according to a response to the question of whether the party will continue its alliance with Nikos Christodoulides, said Chrysis Pantelides, a member of the DIKO Executive Bureau.
Joking, he says that first we’ll have the presidential candidates—the passengers in the limousine—and then the new armored limousine.
“DIKO is part of the current coalition government and is focused on being as productive and constructive as possible in this mission,” he concludes.
