Nicholas asked the President for greater involvement in the government

Christodoulides, One Step Away from the Cabinet Reshuffle
ALPHANEWSLIVE

In the president’s office, speculation about a cabinet reshuffle is reaching a fever pitch, with Nikos Christodoulides preparing to play his last cards, since—barring any unforeseen circumstances—this will be the final reshuffle in the cabinet before the 2028 presidential election.

Nikos Papadopoulos sent a letter to Nikos Christodoulides asking him to discuss the issue of the reshuffle as well as their relationship in general.

Nikolas Papadopoulos, accompanied by his secretariat—which includes the two DIKO ministers, Damianou and Charalambides, went up the hill at 4:00 p.m. and demanded greater participation in the government, given that DIPA and EDEK—which also support the president—failed to secure seats in Parliament. They also called for greater DIKO involvement in decision-making. Another meeting is expected to take place next week. Nikos

Christodoulides’ choices will be decisive in the run-up to the election, as ministers will be called upon to step up their efforts to achieve the best possible results. The President of the Republic will make his final decisions in July. According to reports, he is also factoring in the 18-month requirement that a minister must fulfill to be eligible for pension and other benefits after the end of their term.

The president has been speaking with individuals he is considering. According to ALPHA sources, he is moving to the right, seeking to appoint people from DISY to his cabinet and to semi-governmental bodies, in order to lay the groundwork for 2028, even if this does not please Pindarou, according to party sources. Former officials and front-line members have already been approached, though they have not yet given a positive response. The idea of strengthening DIKO’s presence also remains on his mind.

Shuffles in the ministries of agriculture, transportation, and tourism are on the horizon. However, it is likely that these changes will not be limited to just those ministries. Maria Panagiotou is awaiting the president’s decision, as her possible departure would lead her to return to teaching in September. According to information from the president’s office, she has stated that if Nikos Christodoulides wishes for her to remain, he may reconsider, and that she accepted the appointment as a professor because it was her last chance under the Ministry of Education’s regulations.
