Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, noting that it brings new financial and technical strength to the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection.
In a Sunday post on social media, Mr. Mitsotakis stated that Nexans, also a French company, will undertake the construction and laying of the cable, describing the agreement as a “strong vote of confidence” in Greece’s energy infrastructure.
As he notes, the project will end Cyprus’s energy isolation by connecting the island to the Greek grid, while also strengthening Greece’s role as a key energy hub in the region and paving the way for the use of more clean energy from renewable sources.
The Greek Prime Minister also refers Turkey’s reactions to the Special Spatial Framework for Renewable Energy Sources and what he calls the “resurgence of baseless claims regarding gray zones.”
“Our position is clear and remains unchanged: Greece acts in accordance with international law, exercises its rights, and will not allow threats or illegal claims to dictate its decisions,” he emphasizes.
He adds that Greece consistently seeks dialogue and good-neighborly relations with Turkey, emphasizing, however, that “dialogue does not mean backing down” nor that the country will stop doing what it considers right and necessary.
