Another illegal visit by Yilmaz; he continues the Turkification of the occupied territories

Turkish Vice President Inaugurated Hospitals

Turkey’s vice president is becoming a permanent resident of the occupied territories.

Cevdet Yılmaz returned for the umpteenth time in recent months, and together with Ankara’s favorite, pseudo-Prime Minister Ünal Ustel, he cut the ribbons to inaugurate two new hospitals—one in occupied Kyrenia and one in occupied Morphou.

“In the health sector, a total of 27.5 million euros was allocated under the Protocol on Economic and Financial Cooperation for 2026. I assure you that efforts to strengthen health infrastructure and improve service delivery standards will continue.”
Cevdet Yılmaz

All of this, of course, is intended to assist the pseudo-government in the run-up to the so-called elections on December 6 in the occupied territories.

“We’ve been waiting years for these two hospitals. Investments in healthcare continue in cooperation with Turkey. Next year, the new 343-bed hospital in Nicosia will also open. Thank you, Turkey; thank you, Yılmaz.”
Ünal Ustel—so-called “prime minister”

Darkness Looms for Olgin

At the same time, nothing seems capable of restarting the Cyprus talks, with whatever hopes pinned on Maria Olgin’s visit, sometime in October.

There is widespread discussion surrounding Erhurman’s claims that he is ready to agree to 6 of the 7 Confidence-Building Measures proposed by António Guterres. Among these is the issue of mixed marriages, which the Greek Cypriot side does not consider a confidence-building measure but rather an extremely serious legal and social issue.

“We agree that it is not a confidence-building measure. To be precise, the issues concerning children from mixed marriages, Maronite children, as well as students at the school in occupied Rizokarpaso, should not be subject to political exploitation, nor should they be contingent on political conditions.”
Tufan Erhurman – Turkish Cypriot leader

At the same time, the government rejects the claim that the United Nations Secretary-General called for these seven confidence-building measures as key to moving the process forward.

While Erhürman claims that the Greek Cypriot side does not accept any of them, government sources explain that there are reasons for rejecting each one.

This applies even to issues that seem… innocuous, such as those related to demining and the joint disaster response mechanism.
