The Turkish Ministry of Defense made a new reference to EOKA and the events in Cyprus, stating that it will not forget the “massacres,” as it characterizes them, committed against Turkish Cypriots.
In a post on platform X, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense revisited the issue of the events in Cyprus.
“We have not forgotten and will not forget the massacres carried out by the Greek Cypriot terrorist organization EOKA in Cyprus,” the post states.
The statement was made in response to the broadcast of the 32nd episode of the program “The Turkish Cypriot People Commemorate Their Martyrs,” produced by the Bayrak Broadcasting Corporation in the occupied territories.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Defense, the program is dedicated “to the struggle of the Turkish Cypriots, presenting testimonies about people who lost their lives, the traumatic experiences of that period, and stories of heroism.”
Ankara links this television production to the preservation of the historical memory of Turkish Cypriots, reiterating its position on the role of EOKA in the events in Cyprus.
This is not the first time the Turkish Ministry of Defense has used such language. In previous posts regarding the same series, it had reiterated that it would not allow what it attributes to EOKA to be forgotten.
