The President of the Democratic Alarm, Anita Dimitriou, announced today that Mr. Poly Kourousidis has joined the Government Performance Monitoring Council and will assume the Interior portfolio.

In welcoming Mr. Kourousidis, the Party Chair made special mention of the importance of the portfolio and its connection to the development of a targeted housing policy, which, as she said, is one of the most significant challenges facing our society.

For his part, Mr. Kourousidis, after thanking the President of DISY, noted that the effort to build a better Cyprus is a daily responsibility, noting that housing policy is an essential prerequisite for giving our fellow citizens—especially young people—the opportunity to build their own future.

In a statement, Ms. Dimitriou noted the following:

That is why we feel particularly proud when people who have proven that they work consistently and responsibly for the progress of our country participate in this effort.

I would like to welcome you to the Council for Monitoring Government Work. Today you are taking on a very important portfolio—that of the Interior. I would also particularly like you to serve as a special advisor on housing policy—an area in which you have taken the lead and which is a contentious issue of great concern to our fellow citizens. This is a critical issue that particularly affects young people.

I am confident that with your contribution, we will further strengthen our efforts to develop modern and practical policies. Welcome to the team.”

For his part, Mr. Kourousidis emphasized the following:

Indeed, we waged a commendable and meaningful campaign in the recent parliamentary elections. However, the effort to build a better Cyprus is a daily responsibility.

Housing policy is one of the greatest challenges of our time. It is an essential prerequisite for giving young people the opportunity to build their own future.

Housing must become affordable again—through planning, a serious approach, and concrete proposals.
