The Council of Ministers decided today to appoint Mr. Nikos Tornaritis as Special Political Envoy of the President of the Republic on the Cyprus issue to countries in Asia and Africa.
As part of his mission, Mr. Tornaritis will under the direction of the President of the Republic and in coordination with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, conduct targeted political engagements in Asian and African countries on issues related to the Cyprus issue.

Mr. Tornaritis will serve in this capacity without pay.
Mr. Tornaritis was selected based on his extensive political and parliamentary experience, his many years of engagement with the Cyprus issue, and, in particular, his extensive international presence and the network of institutional and political contacts he has developed.
Mr. Tornaritis served for thirteen years as head of the Cypriot delegation to the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, where he was elected Vice President. He also served as head of the Cypriot delegation and Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
