“The option of an independent run with Odysseas Michailidis was never taken off the table,” says ALMA MP Michalis Paraskevas, speaking on the Alpha Kalimera show.
As for what the party will do in the presidential election, he states that what matters to them is finding the right person.
“Someone we believe, free from any burdens, will be able to implement their platform—with which we will obviously agree—a person of character. We have ruled out party-affiliated candidates—Democratic Alarm, for example—who have already declared their candidacy and will be running.”
“But what really interests us is overturning the policies that have been in place since 2013,” he points out.
He argues that Nikos Anastasiades’ statement regarding a preliminary agreement between DISY and Nikos Christodoulides proves that Mr. Christodoulides is a continuation of the Anastasiades government.
He emphasizes that what matters to ALMA is a change in policy. “Obviously, the political force that can actually win an election is AKEL; I’ve never hidden that fact,” he states.
He points out that no decisions have been made and outlines the profile of the candidate ALMA will support.
“We need to feel that this person will do what they say they will do without being controlled.”
“What AKEL does is AKEL’s business; they need to make their own decisions so that we, too, can make ours,” he concludes.
