In order to further strengthen strategic cooperation between Cyprus and China, the President of the Republic, Mr. Nicos Christodoulides, and the Vice President of China, Mr. Han Zheng, spoke today during a meeting they held in New York.
Speaking during the meeting, the President of the Republic said, “I would like to congratulate you on China’s National Day, which is just a few days away. We also celebrate our National Day on the same day as China’s, on October 1, and before coming to New York, I had the honor of attending the event hosted by the Chinese Ambassador in Nicosia.

I look forward to our discussions on our bilateral relations, as we mark 55 years of diplomatic ties. I also look forward to my visit to China in early 2027 to further strengthen our bilateral relations and to discuss international developments.
China and Cyprus, Cyprus and China, are staunch supporters of multilateralism, and we must continue to work together in this difficult and challenging international environment to uphold international law and the United Nations Charter.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude for China’s principled stance regarding the Cyprus problem and its resolution. We greatly appreciate your stance within the Security Council. At the same time, I reiterate our clear position on the One-China Policy.”
For his part, the Vice President of China said, speaking through an interpreter, that China and Cyprus have different systems, traditions, and cultures, but there has always been respect, equality, and cooperation between them, serving as a model of cooperation for the world.
He added that “this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries and the 5th anniversary of the China-Cyprus Strategic Partnership. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and your own leadership, our bilateral relationship has maintained steady growth and seen progress in practical cooperation and in relations between our two peoples.
China is ready to work with Cyprus to deepen our relations for mutual benefit, intensify multilateral cooperation, build an even more fruitful strategic partnership, and bring even greater benefits to the two peoples.”
