At a meeting, the Political Bureau of EDEK adopted the proposal of the party’s president, Nikos Anastasiou, to call an open Extraordinary Pan-Cypriot Congress on July 5, 2026, an open Extraordinary Pan-Cypriot Congress be convened for July 5, 2026.
The statement by EDEK President Nikos Anastasiou is as follows:
“Following the negative outcome of the May parliamentary elections and the party’s failure to secure a seat in Parliament after receiving 3.3% of the nationwide vote and taking seriously into account the discussions and concerns raised at the Central Committee meeting on June 7, I have decided, exercising the powers granted to me by Article 31 – Paragraph 2 of the party’s Bylaws, to convene an Extraordinary Congress on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
The purpose and goal are to give as many members as possible the right to express themselves freely and democratically.
My decision is based on the need to make decisions and take steps toward redesigning the party’s activities, with the aim of continuing its policy of engagement at the national and social levels.
Decisions and actions are required so that EDEK can develop more effective strategies to intervene and address the problems that threaten and plague Cyprus.
Agenda of the Extraordinary Congress
The Extraordinary Congress is convened to discuss, receive updates on, and make decisions regarding the following issues:
1. Decision of the Central Committee dated June 7, 2026, regarding the convening of a Constitutional, Ideological–Political, and Electoral Congress
