In a statement, Kyriakos Mavronikolas—who is himself running for the position—has called for the validation of all four candidacies for the presidency of EDEK.
Addressing the acting president of EDEK, Deputy President Morfakis Solomonides, Mr. Mavronikolas calls on him to assume the “great responsibility at this difficult time, to make a decision and proceed with the ratification of all four candidacies for the EDEK presidency.”

As he notes, “my many years of experience in political and party affairs, my deep concern for the cohesion of our party, EDEK, and the many messages I have received from EDEK members—both men and women—who have reached out to me since I submitted my candidacy for the presidency of our party” led him to this decision, noting that in the elections on September 5, EDEK members will democratically decide who their next President will be.
